Sumadhura Infracon Pvt. Ltd. is a well reputed developer in residential and commercial buildings in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Sumadhura is leading the way to showcase what can be done with the waste. As a part of the Swachh Bharat Initiative and taking extended social responsibility to a new level, the developers wanted to find an innovative way to eliminate waste completely. A waste to energy plant is set up in Whitefield suburb of Bangalore. In addition to getting rid of the local solid waste, and generate electricity, this helps saves carbon emissions too.
Sumadhura has a large number of projects in Whitefield and wanted to close the loop of waste from all the properties. About three tons of wet waste is generated from the Sumadhura Community in Whitefield and that leads to generation of 420 units of electricity every day or about 1,50,000 units every year. About 1100 tonnes of wet waste will not be going to landfills. This has the potential of saving 1120 tonnes of Co2 equivalent/year.
Decentralized Waste to Energy projects and other decentralized solutions are the way forward in India. This is one of the first projects by any real estate developer and is aimed at creating awareness to the inhabitants of these communities.
Mr Madhusudhan. MD, Sumadhura Infracon Pvt. Ltd. is glad to lead the way and says that Sumadhura is proud to take its environmental commitment seriously and does not mind spending more money than is required for their CSR commitment, “If it is better for their communities and everyone else in Whitefield. After all we all breathe the same air, and drink the same water, if we do not take efforts to keep our surroundings clean, we cannot expect others to do that for us”
